Job Title: Finishing Carpenter / Handyman
Job Description
This role focuses on installing doors and related hardware in commercial environments, combining finishing carpentry, light electrical work, and general handyman tasks. You will install and wire door operators, closures, panic doors, lever sets, weatherstripping, and door stops, following detailed, step-by-step instructions. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work both in a shop and on-site, and comfort using digital tools such as iPads to support installation and troubleshooting activities.
Responsibilities
• Install doors and a wide range of associated hardware, including lever sets, weatherstrips, door closures, panic doors, and door stops, ensuring high-quality finishes and proper operation.
• Wire and set up door operators and other door-related electrical components in accordance with provided instructions and safety standards.
• Read and interpret detailed, step-by-step installation instructions and follow them accurately from start to finish.
• Use a variety of hand tools and power tools, including drills, levels, saws, presses, grinders, and other construction tools, to complete installations efficiently and safely.
• Apply woodworking and finishing carpentry skills to ensure precise fitting, alignment, and finishing of doors and hardware.
• Work effectively in both shop and on-site environments, adapting to different locations and project conditions as needed.
• Collaborate with a small team of 24 people to coordinate tasks, share information, and complete door installation projects on schedule.
• Operate power tools safely, including equipment such as MIG welders, saws, presses, grinders, power files, isolating tools, and punching equipment, where required.
• Use an iPad or similar digital device to access instructions, documentation, and other project-related information, and to support troubleshooting and problem-solving.
• Maintain a strong focus on detail and quality control, checking that all installed doors and hardware function correctly and meet project specifications.
• Consistently wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all site safety rules and procedures.
• Lift and handle materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
• Travel to various job sites as required and stay out of town when necessary to complete projects.
Essential Skills
• 2+ years of experience as a carpenter or in a specialty sub-trade, with a focus on finishing work and installations.
• Proficiency in using power tools such as drills and levels, along with a range of hand tools commonly used in carpentry and construction.
• Ability to safely operate various power tools, including equipment such as MIG welders, saws, presses, grinders, power files, isolating tools, and punching equipment, as required by the project.
• Strong ability to read and follow detailed, step-by-step instructions and installation guides.
• Good communication skills to work effectively within a small team and coordinate tasks on-site.
• Experience in construction, framing, carpentry, finishing, and commercial construction environments.
• Comfort working as a jack-of-all-trades, combining carpentry, light electrical work related to door operators, and general installation tasks.
• Ability to navigate and use iPads or similar digital devices to access instructions and project information.
• Commitment to wearing PPE at all times, including hard hat, 6" steel-toe footwear, high-visibility clothing, gloves, clear safety glasses, and a lanyard for the hard hat.
• Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
• Willingness and ability to travel to different sites and stay away from home when required.
• Eligibility to work with at least one year remaining on a valid work permit, where applicable.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
• First Aid certification is an asset.
• Welding experience is an asset.
• Woodworking and finishing carpentry experience
• Experience with installing and operating door hardware and operators in commercial settings.
• Comfort working both in a shop environment and on active job sites.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail when dealing with installation challenges.

Work Environment
The standard work schedule runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the possibility of 4x10-hour shifts when working out of town. Work takes place both in a shop and on various job sites, primarily focused on commercial door and hardware installations. You typically work as part of a team of 24 people, collaborating closely to complete installations safely and efficiently. When traveling to out-of-town projects, you are paid for driving time to and from the site and receive a per diem of $60 per day, allocated across breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The environment requires regular use of power tools and other construction equipment, and adherence to safety practices is essential. A specific dress code applies, including wearing full PPE at all times: hard hat with lanyard, 6" steel-toe footwear, high-visibility clothing, gloves, and clear safety glasses.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
