Role Overview
The Senior Carpenter will perform advanced carpentry tasks within the realms of concrete and finish carpentry across various construction projects, including new builds and renovations. This position may also involve supervising junior team members. Carpenters use a range of tools and specialized equipment, and work responsibilities may vary by project type and phase.
• Autonomy and Decision-Making: Follows directions while addressing exceptions with the supervisor.
• Career Path: Potential to advance to Trade Foreman 1.
Key Responsibilities
• Utilize a strong knowledge of concrete tools and carpentry hand tools.
• Understand layout principles and construction math as required by projects.
• Set forms for various concrete structures including foundations and bulkheads.
• Place concrete using various techniques and perform basic finishing with floats and trowels.
• Maintain tools and ensure cleanliness in work areas.
• Demonstrate proficiency in framing or forming elements.
• Install safety railings and general safety items.
• Assist in door, frame, and hardware installations.
• Follow safety protocols (PPE compliance and OSHA standards).
• Take personal responsibility for owning required hand tools.
• Exhibit strong behavioral standards including reliability, communication, and a positive attitude.
Additional Core Responsibilities
• Concrete Carpentry Expertise:
• Place rebar per project specifications.
• Conduct layout activities relevant to tasks.
• Apply advanced knowledge of formwork system installations.
• Perform advanced concrete flatwork placement and finishing.
• Understand construction details related to concrete carpentry.
• Finish Carpentry Expertise:
• Ensure quality installations of casework, countertops, trim, and paneling.
• Install doors, hardware, and accessories with precision.
• Provide training and guidance to team members.
• Demonstrate high standards of expertise in concrete and/or finish carpentry.
• Read and understand project plans effectively.
• Complete required reports and pre-task planning.
• Forecast materials necessary for tasks.
• Implement safety procedures and coordinate with the foreman on project plans.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Ability to execute tasks thoroughly and efficiently.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• In-depth knowledge of carpentry trades.
• Familiarity with all essential hand tools and concrete tools.
• Understanding of layout principles and construction mathematics.
• Skillful in setting forms for various concrete applications.
• Capability to work independently with minimal oversight.
• Ability to build collaborative relationships within a team environment.
Education & Experience
• High School Diploma or GED (Preferred).
• Apprentice or Vocational/Technical/Trade training (Preferred).
• Equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in carpentry (Required).
• 5+ years of experience in commercial construction (Preferred).
Working Environment
• Capability to lift at least 50 pounds.
• Potential exposure to extreme weather conditions.
• Willingness to work non-traditional hours as needed.
• Reliable transportation is required.
• Comfortable using safety equipment such as respirators.
• Ability to work at heights and in narrow or limited spaces.
• Frequent physical activities including standing, walking, climbing, and lifting.
• Occasional office tasks such as computer use.
