Position Description: We are looking for a dedicated Rough Carpentry Supervisor to expertly plan, organize, and lead rough carpentry projects for building construction. In this role, you will supervise Turner Trade rough carpenter employees, manage subcontractors and vendors, ensure high-quality work, adhere to project budgets, and maintain a strict focus on safety.
Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as a working supervisor, leading Rough Carpenters and Laborers in construction tasks encompassing the building of walkways, structures, railings, stairs, and necessary temporary features.
• Promote a safe and caring work environment following Turner's Active Caring philosophy.
• Comprehend and lead teams in executing project scopes effectively.
• Review and interpret construction documents for advanced planning of rough carpentry tasks.
• Conceptualize and direct the safe construction of necessary rough carpentry items.
• Oversee all aspects of rough carpentry work, including compliance with safety regulations and overall quality of construction.
• Manage material gathering, measurements, cutting, and installation as directed.
• Identify jobsite hazards and apply carpentry skills to mitigate risks.
• Coordinate with project staff on logistics, including plant layout and equipment management.
• Collaborate with your team to create effective scheduling and determine the sequencing of work.
• Ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials by liaising with the project team.
• Delegate assignments within the crew and develop detailed work schedules.
• Communicate with subcontractors to ensure clarity on scope and expectations, monitoring their progress closely.
• Ensure compliance with contract documents during installation processes.
• Document and resolve issues that arise within the project's scope.
• Collaborate closely with the Superintendent to resolve local operational challenges.
• Engage with inspectors to document comments and address deficiencies before they interfere with project progress.
• Complete and submit all necessary documentation including daily reports and safety compliance paperwork.
• Work with EH&S and Quality Control teams to uphold site safety and quality measures.
• Lead Trade teams in daily Pre-Task Plans for better safety protocols.
Qualifications:
• At least 7 years of hands-on experience, including a minimum of 1 year in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Active OSHA 30-hour certification preferred; willingness to obtain if currently uncategorized.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate diverse teams.
• Strong analytical and planning skills.
• Proficient in interpreting construction documents and schedules.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills for project applications.
• Knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety practices.
• Adept at developing team members and providing constructive feedback.
• Willingness to travel and work flexible hours as necessary.
• Valid state or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required where applicable.
Physical Demands: This role requires the ability to perform tasks in construction settings, including navigating job areas, climbing stairs and ladders, and lifting materials of varying weights. Employees should also be prepared for noise exposure and occasionally working at heights.
Work Environment: Employees will primarily work on construction sites, facing potential exposure to hazardous conditions such as moving machinery and adverse weather. Adherence to safety protocols is mandatory.
